P20 steel is a pre-hardened, low-alloy tool steel widely used for plastic injection molds and zinc die-casting dies due to its good toughness, machinability, and uniform hardness around 28–34 HRC (≈300 HBW).
What is P20 Steel
AISI P20 Steel (UNS T51620; DIN 1.2311/1.2312 equivalents) is a chromium-molybdenum tool steel supplied pre-hardened, eliminating the need for through-hardening before machining typical mold components.
P20 Steel Typical composition
Common ranges: C 0.28–0.40%, Mn 0.20–0.80% (sometimes up to ~1.6%), Si 0.10–0.50%, Cr 1.40–2.00%, Mo 0.30–0.55%; small P and S limits.
